Stefanie Yuen Thio was quoted in The Straits Times by Teo Kai Xiang, in an article highlighting victims of Image-based Sexual Abuse (IBSA). Speaking in her capacity as chairperson of Singapore Her Empowerment (SHE). Stefanie said that since its launch in 2023, SheCares@SWCO centre has envisioned being a one-stop shop for everything a victim might need, and the one area that was completely unaddressed was online harms.
She shared that 45 per cent of posts that harm victims are taken down within 24 hours of the centre flagging it to platforms, and nearly 70 per cent of these posts are taken down within 72 hours. Further, coming at online harms from the angle of a non-profit like SHE can be useful because many tech platforms do not want to be seen as bowing to government pressure, but do also want to be viewed as working actively with the communities they operate in.
The article was also syndicated on Asiaone on 5 April 2025.
