Stefanie Yuen Thio was interviewed on Business Times by Tan Nai Lun and Ng Jun Yuan.
The article discussed how Allianz shareholders may balk at taking on Income’s social mission (p. 2). Stefanie is quoted saying how there is nothing wrong with this deal in the M&A market, but Income, a former co-operative, is not a normal company as it has social responsibilities.
Moving forward, she shares that there is no reason a deal for Income should not go ahead, whether it is with Allianz or some other party. However, the terms of the agreement must be drafted tightly enough to ensure that all strategic objectives are met, as M&A lawyers would normally do. In this case, explicit terms to protect the social mission is very important.
