Director
Melvin is a Director in TSMP Law Corporation’s Dispute Resolution Department. His main practice areas are in civil and commercial litigation and arbitration, with a particular focus on construction and engineering, corporate and shareholder disputes, and insolvency and restructuring. Melvin is currently acting in a series of disputes in the Singapore High Court involving claims made under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act for the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort project, which has resulted in significant developments in the law concerning the operation of the Act. Melvin has also been involved in significant domestic and international arbitration work, including arbitration proceedings in such diverse jurisdictions as the USA, UK, Vietnam and Iran.
Melvin’s practice is founded on a thorough appreciation of the law, coupled with a practical and commercial approach to dealing with each individual case. He believes that a lawyer best serves his client by providing not only sound legal advice, but effective and commercially workable solutions, tailor-made to fit each individual client's needs.
Notable Matters:
- Acting for the Trustee, Security Trustee and Beneficiaries in a cross-jurisdictional dispute with the Issuer over a facility involving the issuance of Notes in the sum of S$120 million, with legal proceedings being pursued in the British Virgin Islands, Hong Kong SAR, the People’s Republic of China and Singapore.
- Acted for The Indian Film Company (Cyprus) Limited in proceedings against MSM Satellite (Singapore) Pte Ltd concerning broadcasting rights for various licensed programs over MSM’s (Sony) cable channels relating to the broadcast of popular “Bollywood” films.
- Lead counsel in domestic and international arbitrations involving construction and engineering disputes with regulatory and statutory bodies.
