Ian Lim joined TSMP's litigation department after being called to the Singapore Bar in 2001. Having discovered his love for the law almost by accident, he now cannot really imagine doing anything else. Always aware of the big picture, he firmly believes in resolving disputes to obtain the best solution for his clients in the legal and commercial circumstances of the case, whether through litigation, arbitration, mediation or negotiation for settlement.
His practice revolves around corporate & commercial litigation and arbitration, with an emphasis on construction and employment law. His portfolio includes dispute resolution and advisory work for all aspects of building & engineering law, employment law, banking law, corporate litigation (minority oppression and shareholder disputes), insolvency, commercial contract law and international trade law. He also handles and advises on confidentiality and restraint of trade, economic torts, tenancies, professional negligence, defamation and white collar criminal matters. He recently acted for Citibank in their civil claims against the ex-bankers dubbed by the media as the ‘Citibank Six', and saw an SIAC Arbitral Award he obtained for a major MNC successfully recognized and enforced in Tianjin, China under the New York Convention. He is a contributor to Singapore Precedents of Pleadings, and has served on the Law Society Civil Practice Committee since 2006.
Ian brings with him the keen and focused energy, drive and competitive instincts of an avid sportsman. When he is not cheerfully burning the midnight oil at work, he can generally be found outdoors on muddy football pitches (trying to combat the effects of one too many late night suppers). On occasion, he also likes to get away for snowboarding, and finds that plunging down a sheer wintry slope approximates the adrenaline rush of advocacy quite nicely.
