The Firm has a Team specialized in Shipping and Maritime with extensive legal experience in the shipping and maritime industry.

On the transactional front, the Team’s members regularly act for shipping industry financiers, local as well as international, providing ship finance advice in a broad range of loan transactions including bilateral and syndicated loans.  The team members also advise shipowners and shipping companies in ship-building and ship sale and purchase transactions, tax and related choice of flag issues, and on a wide range of corporate matters such as joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions and capital markets fund raising exercises.  The team members have also advised and acted on port and terminal development and leasing transactions, structured trade transactions, and inventory and warehousing financing transactions.

In the area of contentious work, the Team’s members have handled everything from major shipping casualties worldwide and their aftermath (such as collisions, groundings, fire/explosions, sinkings, oil and marine pollution, wreck removal and salvage),  to more routine claims (such as charterparty disputes, cargo claims, ship building and repair disputes, and enforcement of mortgage and other maritime debts).  Some of the claims handled by the Teams’ members include the collision between “Nanta Bhum” and “Kapitan Shvetsov” in Thailand, the collision between “Evoikos” and “Orapin Global” off Singapore; the fire and subsequent sinking of the cruise ship “Sun Vista” in the Malacca Straits; and the grounding, salvage and wreck removal of “Asean Liberty” off Yangon.
